Sister Cities General Information - International travel and exchange opportunity! Exchanges for the currently selected 8th grade students are for Shimukappu, Chamonix, and Bariloche for the 2025-26 school year. This year's 7th grade students have completed the application process for the 2026-27 school year exchanges with Bariloche, Argentina; Abetone, Italy; or Shimukappu, Japan, - the application is now closed. The online application and comparative essay on the first choice city was due Wed., January 7, 2026. Student and City Coordinators are working on travel and hosting plans as we move into the next school year. Typically applications information is shared in November/December and applications are due in early January - look for that timeline for the 2027-28 cycle.
In order to apply and participate in the Aspen Sister Cities Middle School Student Exchange Program, student applicants must be enrolled in Aspen Community School/Discover Compass, Aspen Country Day School, or Aspen Middle School at the start of the 7th grade school year. Additionally, students must maintain enrollment in 7th and 8th grades throughout the exchange cycle in order to be eligible exchange participants.
The Aspen Sister City Committee is a non-profit organization run by a Board of Directors. The committee meets at 5:00 p.m. the second Thursday of every month (except July) either online/virtually or in the City of Aspen Sister Cities room. The public is invited.
